Certify Your Bungalow
Certifying your Bungalow is the first step to access the benefits of the program.

State of Illinois Property Tax Freeze
If you live in a Historic District you may be eligible for a property tax freeze.

To encourage energy efficient and thoughtful rehabilitation, the HCBA offers a variety of grants that are available to those who purchase and rehab a HCBA Certified Bungalow.

Review the specific guidelines for each grant:

Eligibility:

  • Home must be HCBA certified
  • All rehab work must be approved and conform to the HCBA Design Guidelines
  • Bungalow must be homeowner's primary residence

Grants are not retroactive. Rehabilitation work executed before the home is certified as a Historic Chicago Bungalow is not eligible for grants.
