Conserve Chicago Together
Learn more about the City's environmental programs and how you can help the environment in your neighborhood.

The City of Chicago encourages a new approach to design, construction and rehabilitation of buildings called "Building Green."  It focuses on innovative strategies and technologies to ensure that buildings enhance health and well being, cost less to operate, and require fewer resources to build, rehab, and maintain.

In partnership with the City of Chicago and the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, the HCBA offers matching grants for energy efficient and water conservation improvements.

To demonstrate the "Building Green" approach, the City and the HCBA teamed up with neighbors and community groups in a southwest neighborhood to create the Green Bungalow Model Block.  Four bungalows were rehabilitated incorporating energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.  In the next five years the HCBA will develop four more demonstration blocks throughout the city with help from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation.
