Design Guidelines that Restore and Preserve
In a continuing effort to revitalize Chicago's 80,000 Historic bungalows, the Chicago Historic Bungalow Association will hold two seminars to focus on exterior improvements to the unique and historic design of the bungalow. An expert panel of window, masonry and roofing professionals will discuss appropriate techniques, materials and upgrades for historically accurate renovations and assist with all phases of exterior restoration and improvement. These seminars will be held on Tuesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 5.
The seminars are part of a series to provide bungalow owners with assistance in all aspects of home renewal. The seminars are made possible through a generous grant from the Graham Foundation.
Most Chicagoans can identify the city's Historic Bungalows from their
unique design. The nearly 80,000 one-and-one-half story rectangular brick
structures, with their generous windows, pitched roofs and graceful decorative
detail are easily recognized. These sturdy structures have withstood harsh
Chicago weather for over 75 years very well, but time has deteriorated
much of their exterior décor. To preserve the design and beauty
of these homes it is essential that homeowners follow important guidelines
as they restore their bungalows.
In addition, members of the HCBA will be on hand with information about special loan programs, grants and discounted supplies being offered to owners of certified bungalows to make home purchase and improvement affordable.
The Exterior Improvements seminars will be held on:
Tuesday, September 3, 2002, 79 pm
Woodson Regional Library, 9515 S. Halsted, Chicago IL
Thursday, September 5, 2002, 79 pm
Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N. Lincoln, Chicago IL
