In 1893, the World's Fair in nearby Jackson Park led to a significant
increase in development of the area. Numerous lots were sold not only
for residential development, but also for commercial purposes. This
event marked the beginning of a period of growth that would last through

Lincoln Square Neighborhood
Earliest settlement of the area by non-native peoples began in the 1850s and 60s. These settlers were immigrants from England, Germany and Luxembourg who worked as truck farmers. PDF
