Did you know that the neighborhood of Peterson Woods was once a tree farm? Or that Gresham, located to the south of Auburn, originally was a small post-Civil War settlement known as "The Grove". Each month we will feature a new neighborhood.

South Shore Neighborhood
In 1893, the World's Fair in nearby Jackson Park led to a significant increase in development of the area. Numerous lots were sold not only for residential development, but also for commercial purposes. This event marked the beginning of a period of growth that would last through the 1940s. Lincoln Square Neighborhood

Earliest settlement of the area by non-native peoples began in the 1850s and 60s. These settlers were immigrants from England, Germany and Luxembourg who worked as truck farmers. PDF
