2024 Garden Contest Winners Gallery
Winner, Best Curb Appeal Gardening
Judy Falso, Portage Park
"I moved to Chicago 10 years ago to be next to my son, Patrick. He lives next door and does all the gardening. He redid my front garden four years ago leaving space for sweeps of annuals to bring in color. This year it's orange begonias and I love the pop of color. Other shade love perennials provide seasonal interest and the oakleaf hydrangeas are wonderful foundation anchors."

"My backyard garden is truly special because it features a diverse array of vibrant flowers and plants that fosters a thriving ecosystem, attracting beneficial insects and wildlife including butterflies and hummingbirds, and creating a lively and enchanting ecosystem. The dappled sunlight filtering through the tree canopy creates a magical ambiance, highlighting the delicate beauty of ferns, hostas, and other shade-tolerant flora. This serene, verdant space offers a refreshing escape from the heat and a peaceful haven for relaxation."

Winner, Best Pollinator Garden
Eileen Whelan, Garfield Ridge
"The majority of my garden is a long narrow rocky strip that was once a gravel driveway. I have been planting native plants for pollinators for nearly 40 years. Each year I try to add new native species and this year I added a rain garden and nearly 500 square feet of new native beds."
